A complete selection of engine oils for motorcycles

Your engine works hard. Every start-up and every acceleration exposes its metal components to extreme temperatures and speeds. Whether you ride a sport bike, adventure bike, roadster or cruiser, Moto Vision offers a wide range of engine oils designed to meet your motorcycle’s exact requirements:

  • Fully synthetic oils: the benchmark for modern high-performance engines: maximum protection, thermal stability, extended engine life
  • Semi-synthetic oils: the best balance between quality and price for versatile daily use
  • Mineral oils: ideal for older engines or motorcycles with lighter use

Available individually (from 500 ml to 4 L) or in economy packs, with or without an oil filter included, you will definitely find the right format for your budget and maintenance schedule.

You can also discover our complete range of engine maintenance products: oil and air filters, motorcycle spark plugs, engine gaskets and much more.

How to choose the right engine oil for your motorcycle?

This is THE question every rider eventually asks. The good news is that the answer is often found in your owner’s manual. The manufacturer specifies the recommended viscosity and performance standards to follow — this is your essential starting point.

Then, choose trusted and proven brands: their formulas are tested, certified and designed to meet the highest standards in the motorcycle industry.

If you no longer have your manual handy, don’t worry:

  • Motul also offers a Motul oil selector: search by license plate or vehicle type and you’re done.

Engine oil viscosity: understanding the grade to make the right choice

What is the difference between 10W40 and 5W40 oil? Or how do you choose between 10W40 and 10W50?

What is engine oil viscosity?

Viscosity is an oil’s ability to flow depending on temperature. Too thin when hot and it no longer protects properly. Too thick when cold and it struggles to circulate during start-up. The right grade is the perfect balance between these two extremes — and that is exactly what the viscosity code indicates.

How to read a viscosity grade: the example of 10W-40

The most common format — such as 10W-40 — is read in two parts:

The number before the “W” (for example: 10 in 10W-40) indicates cold-flow performance during start-up. The lower the number, the faster the oil circulates in a cold engine. A 5W oil protects better at low temperatures than a 10W.

The “W” stands for Winter and confirms that the oil has been tested at low temperatures — without meaning it is only suitable for winter.
The number after the “W” (for example: 40 in 10W-40) indicates viscosity at high temperature (100 °C). The higher it is, the more consistent the oil remains when hot. Therefore, a 10W-50 provides better high-temperature protection than a 10W-40.

10W-40 vs 5W-40, 10W-40 vs 10W-50: which one should you choose?

5W-40 vs 10W-40: same viscosity when hot, but 5W-40 is more fluid during cold starts — an advantage in winter or colder regions.

10W-40 vs 10W-50: same cold-start behavior, but 10W-50 is thicker when hot — recommended for large-displacement motorcycles, sporty riding or very hot climates.

The golden rule: adapt the grade to your motorcycle’s real riding conditions — climate, engine type and riding style.
