Fibreglass exhaust trim
Reference MV-1287
Has your exhaust become too noisy with age?
We offer you this fibreglass panel in 1m x 1m, so that you can refit the lining of your silencer, and thus restore the original sound emissions.
Available in 3 thicknesses (8, 10 and 12 mm), one panel is generally more than enough to rebuild a silencer.
We also offer stainless steel wool to complete the refurbishment of your exhaust.
The glass fibre used to fill exhaust silencers is a material specially designed to improve the efficiency of exhaust systems, in particular by reducing the noise generated by exhaust gases. It is made from molten glass, which is then transformed into fine, lightweight filaments. These fibres are assembled to create a fabric (available in 3 thicknesses, 8, 10 and 12 mm), and are used to be inserted into silencers, often around the tubes and resonance chambers.
Properties of fibreglass for silencers :
- Sound absorption: Fibreglass is particularly effective at attenuating the sound produced by exhaust gases. It traps sound waves, reducing unwanted noise.
- Heat resistance: Being an inorganic material, fibreglass is able to withstand very high temperatures, making it ideal for use in high-heat environments such as exhaust silencers.
- Durability: As well as being resistant to heat, fibreglass is also resistant to chemicals and moisture. This guarantees a long life for the material inside the silencer.
- Lightweight: Compared with other soundproofing materials, fibreglass is lightweight, which is essential so as not to weigh down the exhaust system and affect vehicle performance.
- Easy to shape: Fibreglass can be easily cut, wound or adjusted to fit the specific shape of exhaust silencers, enabling precise and efficient installation.
Application:
In a muffler, fibreglass is often placed around the inner pipe and in the various chambers to maximise noise attenuation. As an exhaust gas passes through the muffler, it encounters the fibreglass, which acts as a buffer, absorbing the sound vibrations and thus attenuating the noise before it escapes from the exhaust.
In short, fibreglass for exhaust silencers is a high-performance material, capable of effectively reducing noise pollution while withstanding the extreme conditions of temperature and humidity to which it is exposed.
