Chain drive transmission is the preferred system for many riders thanks to its reliability and durability. However, to guarantee optimal performance and avoid breakdowns, it is essential to properly maintain and replace chain components at the right time.

Rear sprockets: the foundation of a high-performance transmission

The rear sprocket is a central component of the chain drive system. It must perfectly fit your motorcycle and remain in good condition to ensure optimal power transfer.

  • Steel sprockets: Strong and durable, ideal for daily use.
  • Aluminum sprockets: Lighter, offering improved performance for sport bikes.
  • Reinforced sprockets: Designed to withstand the demands of off-road bikes and high-displacement motorcycles.

Whether you ride a sport bike, roadster, trail, motocross or touring motorcycle, Moto Vision offers compatible parts for the biggest brands: Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, KTM, Ducati, BMW, Triumph and many more.

Chain kits: performance and durability

To simplify transmission maintenance, choose our complete chain kits. Each kit includes a chain adapted to your motorcycle, pre-lubricated for quick installation, a matching rear sprocket for smooth transmission, and a perfectly compatible front sprocket. A worn chain kit can cause vibrations, jerking, loss of performance, and accelerate transmission wear.

Our chain kits are designed to provide excellent wear resistance, smoother transmission and longer lifespan, both for everyday riding and sporty use.

Front sprockets: precision for performance

The front sprocket, mounted on the gearbox output shaft, plays a key role in power transmission. Standard sprockets are suitable for everyday needs and ensure reliable performance. Reinforced sprockets are designed for sport bikes and demanding conditions, while variable-size sprockets allow you to adjust transmission according to your riding style.

The front sprocket directly influences the motorcycle’s final gearing. A simple change in the number of teeth is often enough to completely transform the bike’s behavior. A smaller sprocket improves acceleration and responsiveness, while a larger sprocket offers smoother riding with reduced engine rpm at cruising speed. This modification remains one of the most effective ways to adapt a motorcycle to your riding style without modifying the engine.

Moto Vision offers a wide range of sprockets to meet every rider’s specific needs.

Chain adjusters: maintain perfect tension

An efficient chain adjuster is essential to prevent transmission jerks and extend chain lifespan. With our CNC-machined aluminum adjusters, you can ride safely while preserving your transmission. They feature an ultra-fast adjustment wheel and remain perfectly adjusted during rear wheel reassembly, unlike the original system. Proper chain tension prevents premature wear of both the chain and sprockets.

Chain tools: the key to successful maintenance

Chain maintenance requires dedicated chain tools to ensure clean and efficient work. Chain breakers, riveting tools, as well as brushes and cleaners to keep your chain clean and perfectly lubricated are available on our store.

These tools allow complete and precise maintenance whether you are an amateur rider or a professional mechanic.

Motorcycle transmission FAQ

What is the role of the front sprocket and rear sprocket on a motorcycle?

The front sprocket, rear sprocket and chain make up the motorcycle’s final drive transmission. Together, they transfer engine power to the rear wheel and directly influence acceleration, responsiveness, top speed and engine rpm.

What happens if I remove one tooth from the front sprocket?

Removing one tooth from the front sprocket shortens the gearing. The motorcycle becomes more responsive, with stronger acceleration and better pickup. In return, the engine runs at higher rpm at the same speed and top speed may slightly decrease.

Does adding teeth to the rear sprocket improve performance?

Yes. Adding teeth to the rear sprocket also shortens the gearing. This improves acceleration, responsiveness and motorcycle agility, especially appreciated for sporty riding, track use or stunt riding.

Does longer gearing increase top speed?

Yes. Installing a larger front sprocket or a smaller rear sprocket lengthens the gearing. The engine runs at lower rpm at cruising speed and top speed may increase.

What is the difference between modifying the front sprocket and the rear sprocket?

The front sprocket creates a more noticeable change with only one tooth difference. The rear sprocket allows for more progressive and precise adjustments to the motorcycle’s behavior.

As a general rule, removing one tooth from the front sprocket is roughly equivalent to adding 2 to 3 teeth to the rear sprocket.

Does modifying the transmission increase fuel consumption?

Shorter gearing can increase engine rpm and therefore slightly increase fuel consumption, especially on highways or long-distance rides.

Which transmission setup is best for track riding?

On track, riders generally prefer shorter gearing to improve acceleration, corner exits and responsiveness.

Is shorter gearing useful for stunt riding?

Yes. Shorter gearing makes wheelies easier and improves instant acceleration, making it a very popular setup for stunt riding.

Why replace the complete chain kit at the same time?

Changing the transmission is often the perfect opportunity to replace the complete chain kit. A worn chain reduces performance and accelerates wear on both sprockets.

Maintaining and optimizing your chain drive transmission is essential to guarantee your motorcycle’s performance and reliability. With Moto Vision, you have access to a complete range of rear sprockets, chain kits, front sprockets, chain adjusters and tools suitable for every riding style. Ride with a perfectly tuned transmission, choose Moto Vision!
