An ECU unit on a motorcycle is the electronic control module that manages the engine. ECU stands for Engine Control Unit. It continuously receives information from sensors (engine speed, throttle position, engine temperature, air pressure, speed, oxygen sensor/lambda probe, etc.) and uses it to decide how the engine should run, in real time. If you want to modify the original map because it seems too restrictive, especially on the track, you mainly have two solutions: piggyback units and ECU remapping.
