The mo.lock backup capacitor is an essential technical component to enhance motorcycle electrical safety and ensure reliable operation of the main relay, especially during sensitive starting phases. Its role is to level short-term voltage drops, a common phenomenon when the engine is engaged by the starter, particularly on large-displacement single-cylinder engines or engines with high compression ratios.
In such conditions, the power demand can cause the voltage to collapse abruptly, leading to deactivation of the main relay and unstable ignition. The capacitor acts as a buffer reserve, absorbing fluctuations and stabilizing the power supply, which allows for smoother starts and effectively protects the entire electrical system.
However, to prevent excessive voltage drops, installing a mo.lock capacitor must be combined with an optimal, powerful, and properly sized motorcycle battery, as well as wiring with minimal electrical resistance. By combining these elements, the electrical system becomes more robust, ensuring greater component longevity, improved starting reliability, and reinforced protection of the main relay against unintentional shutdowns.
